Who We Are
Atomic Energy Regulatory Authority (AERA) is a government institution established through the Atomic Energy Act No. 16 of 2011, with the responsibility to administer the provisions of the Act to ensure adequate to protection of the people and the environment in present and future generations against the harmful effects of ionizing radiation without unduly limiting the benefits of the use of nuclear technology
Our Mandate
To exercise regulatory control over the importation, exportation, production, processing, handling, use, holding, storage, transportation and disposal of radiation sources, nuclear material and other radioactive materials in order to protect the public, workers and the environment against the harmful effects of ionizing radiation

AERA regulates activities and practices involving radiation sources,nuclear and radioactive materials. These include naturally occurring radioactive materials (NORM) facilities, medical facilities, academic and research institutions utilizing nuclear technology, construction and manufacturing companies and other industrial facilities using radiations sources
